After my Bangladeshi father found out I had a boyfriend of two years, he emailed me the following…
I wrote the following on september after hearing you illicit relation but did not mailed because I have thought that you are intelegent enough to choose yourself what is good for you and your family.

Bye the way After your broke up other guys who knew your previous one probably try to lure you for “dateing” so be careful. You should not close with those women who do casual dating. Never do that again. There is a proverb If you are in sandy beech send will be all over your body and so does it blacken you if you are in a coalmine. Environment do change peoples and their behaviour. So We need to chose right environment.
In indean culture boys get pride and get way with it by luring so called easy girl in dating. I cannot even think about my daughter is a easy prey. I thought that I show you a moral example by my own personal character so does your mom. It never be a cool idea in my socal and family background. It should never be yours.
You arer mature now never involve in a relation where ” so called date game involve” It will be very bad for your future relation with a serious person who like to start a family from our social background. After all I serious person will not like to have a relation with so called easy type women or men. I would never so Does you or your brother. After all I want you have family and so does you.
We are here in washington, DC. Why you are lonely that you need some one for closeness I do not under stand. If you can not decipline yourself than what is the difference between you and all those people who went wrong way in getos. I got married when I was in almost thirty years old, your mammy was 23. Respect me. Respect your mother and respect yourself Please!
I am feeling very sad and sorry I have to send an e-mail writing these. You have to find out what is good for you. Never do mistake one after another. Most of these Indean friends will be lost after your college graduation. That happens to Imon

My dad tagged along on a day trip to the beach with a friend. While in the water, he started splashing random strangers. He is also a big fan of Napoleon. (Bonaparte as opposed to Dynamite, who I do respect as my daddy). This was one of the first emails I received from him:
Yesterday i had tel. conversation she went to day care today keun appa come. he will back to Conn on Sat. morning. You may call him “say hello”. Halmuni said you ask her about keun appa how he is. Halmuni was happy she said Julia is very good heart.
Julia ! i heard your presentation was successful. It is greateful. Hoping that you respect Napoleon as your daddy. His life was always challenge. “No impossible in my dictionary”. If you have chance, read book about him.
Julia ! why you told mom i made trouble in Long beach. Appa call you big mouth. Halmuni said Julia will come home this weekend. I think she want to see you every week and bring to her Bon Juk.

After starting a new job I did really well with one customer and they sent in an email praising me specifically and chuffed I forwarded it to my Dad to show him how well I was doing. He replied…

For those annoying people, try to stay away. Do not show your dislike them, especially in public. You need to hang on old friends. Do not dump them when you have new friends. Decide not to go to Tucker’s audition? You are dumping your Cello.

I was not sure what caused you to feel so sad yesterday. If you willing to share it with me, I am listening. If it was because some boy making some unintended comment on you, be strong but also be wise from now. If you were too boyish or too uninhibited in from of male, they may see you as one of them and start behave less respectfully. You want to be a little bit more mysterious and sometimes at an arm length from them. You need to let them feel that you need to be cared for sometimes and they can not see you through at once. Use ar-nian (your maternal grand mom) as example, she always put her best foot forward (well dressed and make ups) when she is with stranger. She is also less chatty when we go out so everyone new thinks of her as a gracious lady. So learn a little from her in that respect. Hope that helps.

Mom told me the good news that you have good responses from the interviews. Congratulations!! We know you can do that.
However, there is one thing that we worry about you. You never dress-up and never spend time in “make-up” like many of your friends or your sister. However, the first impression in the interview is going to be very important. We just send you money via paypal to your Washington Mutual account. Half of it is for you to buy some good dresses and shoes for your interview. The other half is for your moving in the coming weeks. You are welcome to spend a small amount in dining which is one of your favorites. However, keep it small!!! Haaha!
