During winter break I went to see my dad at his office (he is a dentist), and he found two cavities in my mouth. After the initial freak out, he told me he would email me when he had time to tell me how to take care of my teeth…

How is school ? Hope everything go well. I got your mail box number,I’ll send the parcel Friday. For the prevention of your teeth health :
1, brush and floss twice a day, remember to do through job before you go to bed at night.
2, use the special toothpaste,PreviDent, once or twice a week.brush with it ,don’t rinse, floss then spit, and go to bed.
3, make sure you brush all the teeth, don’t miss the last tooth.
4, remember your last molar tilt toward back.so you need to position your toothbrush accordingly.
5. it’s a good idea look in the mirror when you brush ,once a week at least,so you don’t miss some areas all the time.
6, never leave food impacted between your teeth, use toothpick or floss to remove impacted food right after meal.

If you follow the guidelines, then you probably won’t get another cavity. We got 12′ of snow this time, not too hard to clear the driveway. Drive carefully. Hope you have a great semester !

Love , Dad

Subject line: Request for English Words

The following is my description to your sickness to my friend in China. I do not know what English words should be used in the passage. Please fill in it and send me back.

Daddy

Ultrasonic waves did not find anything in her belly. But whenever she eats something, her belly soon becomes bulgy. A lot of gas is generated in her . She takes some medicine to force her ? every day as so to reduce the pressure in her .

We plan to see a specialist to keep checking. My wife guess it should be a kind of affections in her stomach and .. It should not be a big problem. I will let you know when it is clear.

Here’s a 2-part email from my dad thanking my boyfriend and me for the pies we brought him from a popular pie shop, Dangerously Delicious Pies. His English is pretty good and usually isn’t very fobby, but I guess he must have been bored at home or something…

Thank you for Baltimore’s Dangerously Delicious Pies. As advertised, they are visually dangerous and tastes dangerous as well. In fact, a slice of savory pie with pulled BBQ pork is huge and substantial and it tastes far sweeter than a fruit pie with berry filling. I will try another slice – a steak with mushed onion, etc. - tomorrow since trying both at the same time may be too dangerous. My expectation for the steak pie is high now! Good American food comes in American size !

By the way, I guess all the good staff in Baltimore is in the old downtown !? Is it a dangerous place – which is recently ranked one of 7 most dangerous places in the world in the internet ? If so, be very careful to go to get a dangerous pies in an extremely dangerous place !!!

Anyway, thank you once again.

Dad

_____________

The next day, after my dad ate the other savory slice, he sent us another email…

Dangerously Delicious Pie Report – Part 2

The word “Savory” is just fitting to this steak pie. You love meat, you love steak – this pie is very good with a touch of smoky flavor. This one is an easy winner over pulled BBQ pork. However and once again we have to understand it correctly that their naming “Dangerously” is not their humor but they mean it – this tastes very good but is actually a dangerous pie !

My sister and I were comparing text messages from my dad who currently is working in a French-Speaking country…

Dad: All people here talk in french such as ‘Woala’. Common to lo fu?
Sister: That’s not how you spell that. It’s Comment Allez-vous?
Dad: C’est la vie woala Aurvoire!

Translation:
Woala – Voila!
Common to lo fu – Comment allez-vous? (How are you)
Aurvoire – Au Revoir (Bye!)

Later on, he texted me…

Dad: Hi, Comment to lu fu?

So my dad likes to send me a string of emails one after the other if he forgets to add something after sending. I study away from home and he loves to leave me his ‘revolutional, new and undiscovered’ ways of studying lol…

Hi Vinc,

The email below can be summed up as ‘ Incremental study for long term memory’, read it loud, point figure on image, close eye and recite from memory. Make study fun and don’t look at a burden. Human body is a discovery science.

Sleep early, wake up early to study is important (from fresh mind).

Drink water, fresh air, stand up, changing environment but keep focus on …. between study is important in trunk of study.

Think of topic and how they relate to each other. Ask what is it? How does it work? Why we need to know? on anatomy picture to trigger your brain.

Regards,

Joe

————————

Hi Vinc,

With the strategy(method) of study, if you have 1 week (which is 7 days) for anatomy, cut the study into very small trunks that you can remember and learn for 1 day only. Don’t try to learn everything in 1 day, you will forget, use long temp memory, start early, and learn very little bit at a time, cut whole day into block on 30 minutes study, 5 minutes break, stand up in between, recite/drawing frequently, ensure not overloading information. Memory Retention is important, linking superior to inferior, Anterior to posterior, Study the important topic first, etc… start early in the morning when the mind is fresh.

Day1: topic 1 only, and learn by heart, cover it, recite it until you’ve got it.

day2: close book/review 2o minutes on topic 1 on a blank paper. When and only when it’s ok, study topic 2(small trunk again).

Day3: close book/review 3o minutes on topic 1 &2 on a blank paper. When and only when it’s ok, study topic 3(small trunk again).

Day4: close book/review 4o minutes on topic 1 &2&3 on a blank paper. When and only when it’s ok, study topic 4(small trunk again).

Day5, 6 , 7: do as before

Hope you can try this out.

Love and missing you, thinking of you every day.

Daddy Joe

This is the monthly “to do” list my dad sends me to tell me what to do. I am working on a Siemens Project and this is what he said:

Phillip,

There are only three weeks left before school so must use time wisely. You need to work on the following over the three weeks:

  1. Online PE class
  2. Common app essays
  3. Mit essay
  4. Semen Project

There is not much time.
