Posted on May 28, 2010 at 12:51pm

My mom went on a trip to Tokyo and I saw her on Skype, so I thought I’d talk to her to see how much fun she was having. Instead, my dad signed on at home and this was the response I got:

Me: mama liu!
Dad: since mama liu is in tokyo japan w/ auntie, she certainly did not bring laptop, will not talk by skype. this is her groom simon papa at home. while at work, be focus, don,t let leisure mood ruine ethics n morality.
Me: LOLL okay!
Dad: thank u for ur attention. over!

Kind of like the Navi World in Avatar?

Posted on May 23, 2010 at 11:45am

My dad believes his late brother was struck down from beyond the grave by my grandmother because he argued with her while she was still alive. He also offers Grandma’s spirit some of his food before he eats. He’s been in the U.S. for nearly 50 years but is still wonderfully fobby!

Hi Amie,

Heading to Corpus now, will be at job site tomorrow, the assignment is going to be done in a couple of days, I should be back and stay put in the office by this coming Tuesday afternoon, hope do not get lay-off, I (and you too) should pray to Grand-Ma to use her super-natural power to helping us (she is with us all the time — I worship her with my dinner every night before I eat), believe me she is around (see what happened to your uncle). There is a super-natural in this world —- you better believe it.

Take a good care of yourself.

Love,
Dad

Five Reason to Not Like You

Posted on May 18, 2010 at 01:22pm

I was listening to the song, “I Want You You Want Me” when my dad’s friend walked by:

Friend’s dad: Oh! I know this song! It’s from the movie, uh, “I Have Five Reason To Not Like You”
Me: Uh, do you mean “10 Things I Hate About You”?
Friend’s dad: Oh, yes. That’s it!

Bubbly & Frothy…TMI

Posted on May 18, 2010 at 01:17pm

My father e-mails and calls rarely, but when he does, he can’t help but offer up a detailed list of the ailments his body is currently suffering from. His English is actually pretty decent… it’s the subject matter that leaves me in stitches and sometimes, needing to gag. Love the segue from foamy urine to the state of the global markets:

Hi,Ed:

I have not email you guys for a while, how’s every one? I am doing ok,I suspect my renal function is deterioting a bit although the calculated GFR is normal and my internist is not convinced that I suffered from CRF.

My urine is very bubbly and frothy is the last few months and there is an occasional lower leg edema which is controlled by increased the dose of my antihypertensive medication.(there is a small amount of diuretics in the medication). The first time I noticed lower leg edema was when I was in BOSTON a few years ago and I though that was due to sleeping on airbed for a week and lack of exercise. The edema disappeared in 48 hrs after I use the treadmill for an hour.

The episode was when I was in Jarkata after a 27 hrs long flight and it disappeared after a few hours of exercise. Then the edema comes once in a while when I had my normal routine daily living about the same time that I noticed the change of the gross appearance of the urine.(THE URINE INDEED HAS A TRACE OF PROTEINURIA and I am borderline anemic)

I have informed the Lab that I definitely will retire by the end of this year in spite of the fact the Lab keep asking me to work parttime. The equity market has rebound quite a bit in the last few months and FEXPX gained more than 10% this year! If you guys decide to come back for a visit, please donot hesitate to call me.

Have a great day!

Daddy

Wise Words & Love “To The Bone”

Posted on May 11, 2010 at 11:53am

I found out that my ex-boyfriend moved on and is dating someone new. Since it was my first relationship, I felt pretty depressed about the whole situation. I confided in my mom who then told my dad.

In his effort to console me, he sent me an email:

Just had a quick lunch with your Mom as she was doing some banking arrangement for the HK trip.

Learnt that you have had recently upsetting emotions over Gordon.

There is no need for such negative response to Gordon’s situation on his new girl friend “attachment” at all.

I have big reservation towards such behavior as showing off his qickness in such endeavor – such a lowly human quality as to take true love as a running competition for find an attachment.

Jacqueline, you have such good qualities within and without, that you deserve something a lot better, at least someone who really loves you to the bone.

So tell yourself it is just so good to leave that part of your life behind you and bid farewell to Gordon and wish him good luck.

You have some bigger pictures in your future life and at this moment you have no other concerns but your exams!

Dad

Translation: Gordon’s a jerk, you’re awesome.

I love my dad.

My Dad is a Philosopher

Posted on May 5, 2010 at 06:43am

I’ve been struggling with a few aspects in my life, and recently my Dad has been reaching out to bridge the cultural/generation gap. He started to learn how to text and I received a text that read exactly:

“U mom get job anne u is my hope what even do not worry keep happy everydays keep eye on he farway what even u want i am support”

Another night, my dad saw me walking to my car at midnight and thought I was sneaking out when I was only trying to get baseball tickets from a friend. He decided to come with me and then shared his philosophy on life:

“Bitter first, sweet later. Cannot run away!”

I love my dad!
