note on refrigerator:
Stay home and do your homework. I gone to Macy’s and see that manicure make
hands softer. I go get clear manicure because red is for girls.

Got this email from my dad this morning addressed also to my stepmom and sister:
Finally, Winter appears to be leaving us, Spring is in the air and will arrive officially this Friday. I even saw tulips poking out of the dirt in the planters downtown Monday. I saw a chubby squirrel running about on my way to work this morning. The economy is still in a shambles, however, there are feeble signs of a recovery underfoot. We are still gainfully employed, thank goodness for that. Your Aunt Telly has a new job and less commute. My health seems to be OK; I got out of bed and was eager to go to work this morning, didn’t I? The birds start chirping more loudly. The girls appear to be well on their way to purchase that dream condo unit (there is going to be major belt-tightening for them, but they should be OK).
What more can I ask for in life ?? The glass is half-full and not half-empty and I look forward to getting it filled all the way up!

Howdy, Daughter,
Happy Birthday to you!
This is your first birthday in China since you left China in 1989. After 20 years, you have become an elegant and intelligent girl who has accomplished a lot in America and then returned to China with great honors. Your hard work and studies has pushed you to a very good position. As your parents, we are very proud of you!
You have 4 more years to get your JD/MBA. Then you will get a decent job and salary, too. After that, we wish you find a new boyfriend and then marry to him. You are smart enough to recognize who is your man to stay with for many years, hopefully for whole life.
Happy Birthday again!!!

My dad asked me the dreaded question a while back…
Dad: So, what’s your major?
Me: Environmental Sciences.
Dad: Oh. That good?
Me: Yeah, I like it.
Dad: Ok. And then you’re going to be a lawyer?
Me: Maybe.
A little while later, Mom pulls me aside:
“Tiffany, you need to explain to your father what environmental science is. He’s afraid you’re going to become a recycler or one of those save-the-planet people.”
