instead of thank you card/note, you may buy a small gift for Alex. The gift may not have to be expensive.
Chinese usually consider so call “two-way” gift giving. This means when person A (rich) gives person B (not rich) gifts several times. The person B usually need give person A gift in return. The gift value is not the point. The point is friendship exchange.
